The War in the Pacific during World War II officially began in full when the Japanese attacked the US Naval Station at Pearl Harbor in Hawaii on December 7, 1941. The American fleet was entirely destroyed, with the exception of its vital aircraft carriers which had been out on maneuvers at the time of the attack.
