The White Greyhound of Richmond is the tenth and final design from the Queen’s Beast Series at the Royal Mint of England. The White Greyhound was present in the form of a statue at the official coronation ceremony of Queen Elizabeth II. The White Greyhound dates as far back as the 1300s in the history of the British monarchy.
John of Gaunt, the third son of the iconic King Edward III, was the first to use the White Greyhound of Richmond. It was a part of the badge held by John of Gaunt when he was made the 1st Duke of Lancaster and serving as the steward of the Honour of Richmond. The White Greyhound was chosen as a heraldic beast for this bad because it is a favored breed of dog in Northern England.
Queen Elizabeth II features on the obverse side of 2022 10 oz British Silver Queen’s Beast White Greyhound Coins. Her Majesty is shown here in right-profile relief in the definitive fifth-generation portrait for British currency. This design was created in 2015 by Jody Clark and shows the Queen at the age of 89.
The White Greyhound of Richmond can be found on the reverse of 2022 British Silver Queen’s Beast White Greyhound Coins. The design shows a greyhound dog breed supporting the shield of the House of Tudor. The shield is crowned and includes a white rose at the center of a red rose, a symbol of the combined House of York and House of Lancaster as merged by Henry Tudor when he became Henry VII of England.
